  • Program Statement

Every adult who works directly with your child (teachers, assistant teachers, aides, volunteers, and substitutes) follows standards grounded in current best practices, State Department of Human Services licensing rules, and NAEYC national accreditation guidelines.

    Our commitment to children:

We advocate for laws and standards that protect the quality of young children's lives. We create learning environments that respond to each child's developmental needs. We honor each child's individuality and nurture their self-respect. We continuously strengthen our skills as educators and caregivers.
  • Statement of Professional Ethics and Standards

Our staff upholds the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, the national standard for professional behavior in early childhood education. In practice, this means:

We ground our programs in current child development research. We respect and support families as partners in their child's growth. We advocate for children, families, and educators in our community. We hold ourselves to high standards of professional conduct, and hold each other accountable. We stay open to new ideas, recognize our own biases, and commit to continuous learning.
  • Emotional Assurance

Starting a new school is a big transition, for children and for parents. We ease into it with a gradual orientation: at least two half-days (9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.) so your child can get to know their teachers, their classroom, and their new routine before staying for a full day.

This is especially helpful for very young children or those navigating changes at home, whether that's a new sibling, a move, or a parent returning to work. If your child needs more transition time, their teacher or Center Director will work with you to find the right pace.

During this period, physical closeness, verbal reassurance, and sharing the day's highlights together go a long way.

  • Behavior Management

Young children are learning how they fit into the world, and part of that means testing limits. Our goal is to help every child develop self-control and empathy, understanding not just how to manage their own behavior but how their actions affect the people around them.

    Our approach to guidance:

We use redirection, positive reinforcement, and natural consequences. We encourage rather than compare, compete, or criticize. We help children learn to express their feelings and needs in ways that work. We never use corporal punishment or any technique that humiliates, frightens, or shames a child.

When challenges arise (and they will, because biting, hitting, and throwing do occur  in young children), teachers use positive guidance to address the behavior in the moment. Ongoing patterns of toddler biting are handled within the context of a child's developmental stage.

If a child is consistently causing harm to others, the teacher will notify all parties involved on the same day. Parents may be asked to pick up their child. We will meet with families of children showing persistent challenging behaviors to develop a plan together. In some cases, we may ask the family to seek outside counseling to support continued enrollment and to give the child the right support.

For field trips and special activities, we make every effort to include all children. If a child's behavior creates a safety concern, they may need a parent chaperone to participate or may stay with another classroom group during the activity.

Seagull reserves the right to suspend or disenroll any child who poses an ongoing threat to others. Everyone has a right to feel safe at school.
  • Sick Children

If your child becomes sick during the school day, we'll care for them comfortably until you or another authorized adult can pick them up. We'll ask that pick-up happen as soon as possible for the safety of your child and the other children in our program.

Please keep your emergency contact information current so we can always reach someone quickly if your child is sick or injured.
  • Safety/Security

Parents are required to walk their child to the classroom each morning and sign them in with their teacher. At pick-up, children are signed out the same way. Anyone authorized to pick up your child who isn't known to the teaching staff will be asked to show photo ID.
  • U.S.D.A. Food Program

Every enrolled child receives breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack, included in tuition at no extra cost. Our meals are prepared fresh daily in compliance with the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

To help us maintain full program funding, we ask all families to complete the USDA Income Eligibility form each year. Forms are distributed and collected annually.
